The Best Times of Year for Outdoor Photography Sessions in Florida

What are the best times of year for outdoor photography sessions in Florida? Florida offers incredible opportunities for outdoor photography sessions year-round, but certain times of the year stand out as especially ideal for capturing stunning, comfortable, and memorable images.

By scheduling your session during Florida’s ideal seasons, you ensure not only beautiful imagery but also a more enjoyable and stress-free experience for everyone involved. A little planning goes a long way in making your photos timeless and magical!

Here’s a breakdown of the best seasons and why it’s important to consider timing for your session

The best times of year for outdoor photography sessions in Florida

1. Late Fall (October–December)

Warm, Cozy Vibes and Golden Light

Styling Tip: layers, fall in Florida can be unpredictable, it can be 80+ degrees or it can dip into the 50s combined with the wind on the beach will create a chilly evening. I recommend choosing outfits with layers that we can shed or pile on depending on the weather that happens.

Location choice: the golden glow of sunsets over the beach is unmatched in the fall.

  • Why It’s Great: Florida’s fall brings cooler, more pleasant temperatures and less humidity, making outdoor sessions much more comfortable. The light during these months is softer and golden, especially during the “golden hour,” creating dreamy photos.
  • Why It’s Important: Clients will feel more relaxed and comfortable, especially in heat-sensitive outfits, resulting in natural and genuine smiles.

2. Winter (January–March)

Florida’s Secret for Peaceful, Serene Photos

Styling Tip: Knit items such as hats and sweaters add interest for the eye to your images.

Location choice: under Spanish moss covered live oaks, something about those moss covered trees feels cozy.

  • Why It’s Great: While much of the country is in the throes of cold weather, Florida enjoys mild winters with clear skies and comfortable temperatures. Beaches, parks, and gardens are particularly beautiful this time of year.
  • Why It’s Important: It’s the perfect time for outdoor sessions without worrying about sweating or overheating, ensuring makeup stays fresh and everyone stays energized.

3. Spring (March–May)

Bright, Fresh, and Perfect for Maternity or Family Sessions

Styling Tip: Color! Spring is the perfect time to incorporate color into your wardrobe.

Location choice: at one of our many Florida Springs with water temperatures of 72 degrees year round this is the perfect time to take advantage of the crystal clear water and unique scenery of the springs.

  • Why It’s Great: Spring brings blooming flowers, lush greenery, and vibrant colors, creating lively backdrops. Temperatures are warm but not yet summer-hot, and the days are longer, providing plenty of daylight.
  • Why It’s Important: Seasonal blossoms and new growth add a sense of renewal and beauty to photos, perfect for maternity, engagements, or family portraits.

4. Early Summer (Late May–June)

Fun, Vibrant, and Playful Beach Sessions

Styling Tip: Summer sessions are the perfect time to put a bathing suit under your outfits and take a sunset swim. The water is warm and if we are lucky manatees or dolphins will be near.

Location choice: Beach of course!

  • Why It’s Great: Early summer offers long days, bright sunshine, and vibrant beachscapes. While mornings and evenings are ideal, the beach settings during this time are unmatched for a tropical vibe.
  • Why It’s Important: Choosing early mornings or evenings during summer avoids the harsh midday heat and lighting, ensuring photos are flattering and comfortable.

How to Choose What Time of Year for Your Photography Session

Choosing the best times of year for outdoor photography sessions in Florida depends on your vision, the type of session, and how you want the images to feel.

Comfort for Clients: Sessions during cooler, less humid months make it easier for families, couples, and expecting mothers to enjoy the experience without discomfort.

Lighting and Atmosphere: Certain times of year offer more predictable weather and natural light, which are essential for high-quality images.

Avoiding Storms: Florida’s rainy season (June–September) often brings unpredictable weather, which can disrupt sessions or limit outdoor options.

Your choice should reflect what feels meaningful to you while ensuring a stress-free, beautiful session!

About this outdoor photography session in Florida

This beautiful outdoor photography session in Florida took place at Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach on top of Mount Morgan, overlooking the Indian River Lagoon. This location provides a birds eye view of New Smyrna Beach. The Marine Discovery Center is where my girls attend summer camp for a few weeks during the summer, so it’s been a special spot for me to use with clients!

At the end of this session right after sunset, we witnessed a rocket launch! We had the perfect vantage point from this hillside. This was my third session with this family. Our first session, Kinsley (their daughter) was just starting to walk, whereas this session I was having full conversations with her. It is so fun to watch children grow and be able to capture that growth.

Regardless of the best times of year for outdoor photography sessions in Florida, know that your family is the most important key to a beautiful session. Your story matters, and no matter what, deserves to shine all throughout the year.

All my love,

Katherine
