It can be hard to know how far in advance on when you should book your fall family photo session. Fall is an incredibly busy season for photographers. Everyone seems to be in a rush to get the perfect pictures for their annual holiday cards.
The season is ideal for photography for several reasons. First, the weather is perfect—still warm but not too warm, avoiding the unbearable heat that can make outdoor shoots challenging. There’s also just something magical about autumn sunlight! It’s softer, more golden, and casts a unique glow that enhances the natural beauty of the landscape, particularly on beaches.
Families often take advantage of this season to create lasting memories, resulting in a high demand for photographers.
To avoid your photographer being booked up and to ensure you get the most out of your fall family photo session, July is the perfect time to start inquiring. This gives you ample time to plan the perfect session and guarantees you the first choice of fall dates. This way, you can secure a spot with your preferred photographer and have time to discuss ideas, locations, and any specific themes you want to incorporate. Planning ahead ensures a smooth, enjoyable experience and allows both you and your photographer to prepare for a truly memorable photo session.
Booking your session in July also allows you to take advantage of any early bird discounts or special offers that photographers might have. Many photographers appreciate clients who plan ahead and might offer incentives for early bookings. Additionally, by booking early, you have the flexibility to choose a date that works best for you, avoiding the last-minute rush and potential scheduling conflicts.
In the months leading up to your fall family photo session, you can collaborate with your photographer to refine your vision. You can scout locations, gather props, and even coordinate outfits to ensure everything aligns perfectly with your desired aesthetic. This preparation not only results in better photos but also makes the entire experience more enjoyable and stress-free.
When scheduling your fall family photo session, aim for dates in September and October. These months provide the best balance of beautiful foliage and favorable weather. November can be pushing it, depending on where you get your holiday cards printed and when you prefer to send them out. By booking early, you avoid the last-minute rush and potential scheduling conflicts, ensuring you have plenty of time to receive and send out your holiday cards.
Despite the rush and chaos of fall family photo sessions, It is by far one of my favorite months to do sessions. There is just something about the weather, the light, and the mood everyone is in. My client’s also prefer the fall for the same reasons, and seeing them happy makes me happy.
All in all, make sure you book early for your fall family photo session… your photographer will thank you!
All my love,
Katherine
